The modern office is going through major changes. Traditional workstations are giving way to dynamic hybrid spaces where well-being, flexibility and environmental responsibility take center stage. These trends were on full display at the recent prestigious design show Clerkenwell Design Week in London, where Andreu World, one of the manufacturers we represent, once again proved its position as a global leader.

The international recognition at the show makes one thing clear: sustainability and ergonomics have become a necessity today. They are no longer just a vision of the future. THOMSON Furniture is proud to offer this world-class furniture in Latvia. It is an excellent way to transform any business or private space.

The design standard of the future: the Bolete chair series by Patricia Urquiola

Visitors and the jury alike were drawn to the new Bolete chair series created by world-famous designer Patricia Urquiola. This collection redefines what “responsible design” means.

The collection stands out for its bold blend of pop-art aesthetics and contemporary minimalism. Its visual signature is organic, flowing forms and an expressive ribbed base that works as a sculptural object in its own right.

Bolete was created for spaces where design is an essential part of the interior. The chair fits naturally into upscale waiting areas, open-plan offices, hotel lobbies, restaurants and creative collaboration zones. Its balanced proportions and carefully crafted details let it serve as a statement piece while remaining practical for everyday use.

This approach significantly reduces environmental impact and shows that high-end design can go hand in hand with a responsible attitude toward natural resources. The furniture is designed so that its components are easy to separate, repair and recycle, extending the product’s life cycle and reducing waste. It is precisely this philosophy that makes Andreu World one of the most sustainable furniture manufacturers in the world.

Smart ergonomics in motion: the Velo task chair

The other favorite of the show, which earned well-deserved praise from experts, is Velo, a new-generation task chair developed together with the renowned design studio LAYER (Benjamin Hubert).

Traditional office task chairs are often technically complicated and visually heavy, but Velo takes the opposite approach: visual lightness, structural minimalism and natural comfort. What makes this chair unique is its smart, weight-activated mechanism. This means the chair needs no complicated manual adjustment knobs or levers: its smart design adapts naturally to the sitter’s micro-movements and changes in posture.

This is especially valuable in today’s dynamic workplaces, where several people use the same workstation. The chair automatically adapts to each user and provides an ergonomic sitting position with no extra adjustments. It greatly improves the user experience, reduces the risk of poor posture and supports a healthier workplace.

Velo was designed specifically for hybrid work and home offices. Its flowing, continuous backrest silhouette comes in either breathable mesh or a fully upholstered version, providing optimal lumbar support. Like Bolete, Velo is made with Pure Eco® recycled polymers, and its minimal number of parts makes the chair easy to disassemble and recycle at the end of its life cycle.

Beyond ergonomics, Velo also stands out for its visual elegance. Its understated design lets the chair blend easily into a wide range of interiors, from classic workspaces to modern coworking offices and executive suites. A wide choice of finishes and colors makes it possible to match the chair to the architecture of a specific project and to a company’s visual identity.
